Breastfeeding vs. Bottle feeding, which one do you prefer? Why? How strongly do you feel about it?

Breastfeeding vs. Bottle feeding Empty
PostSubject: Re: Breastfeeding vs. Bottle feeding   Breastfeeding vs. Bottle feeding EmptyMon Mar 10, 2008 9:23 pm

well, really its how the baby latches on when breas feeding, some women have problems in breast feeding cuz the baby will not latch on or only does it for a few minutes which is really stressful for the woman.
Many feel breast feeding is a better bond with your child, but bottle feeding is just as affective because your spending time nurturing your child at feeding time and holding him or her the exact same way as you would if you were breast feeding. If you cant properly breast feed or the baby doesnt take your breast, you can use breast pumps and bottle feed with your breast milk which is still a very good thing to do. it all depends on your decision, [some cant handle breast feeding,] and how the baby latches.
When i have my baby i am going to breast feed, but if i cant do it or my baby doesnt latch on, i will bottle feed which i feel gives me that exact same bond as it would if i were breast feeding.

I am continually surprised at how strongly some people feel about this subject. Mostly the strong emotions come from the pro-breastfeeding side. I didn't bf my DD because I was taking a medication that crossed into breast milk. I wish I could have at least tried it, though. I bet it is an amazing experience.

The one downside is that no one else can feed the baby, and that would have been horrible in my situation. My DH loved to feed our DD, and she also had a live in Nanny that fed her.

some woman alternate brest feeding and bottle feeding so the father is included in the feeding as well, im not too sure if it would start right away for a new born cuz possible confusion, but later on they alternate to bottle as well so they can share the joy of feeding their child.
Some nurses force breast feeding, george and i have a cousin who had her first a year ago, and she couldnt get her son to take her breast properly, and the nurses forced her so much she was crying, and her nipple bruised from the pain and how forceful they were being, its a pretty frustrating thing when the baby doesnt take the breast and the mother thinks theres something wrong with her.

For me it depended on the child. My eldest could breast feed without a problem but my youngest needed soy formula.

I am pro-breast feeding for myself when the time comes. I agree with a persons decision to do as they wish, the only thing I can't understand is when a mother refuses to do so because "it's icky" or because her SO wants them to himself. I'll guess these situations don't happen often, but even if they did, it's none of my business. Not my body, not my choice Razz

Why would you assume that only latching on is the issue. Do you know that all babies latch on but how they feed is really up to you! Some can't have milk due to allergies and alot of times the mother does not produce good milk or any!

You have a lot to learn !

That last one, where the SO wants the "boobies" all to himself, is sick, sick, sick. That reminds me of guys that don't want their gf's or wives to have children because it will "wreck their bodies". I knew a guy like that once. What a moron he was.
They ended up having a baby anyway, lol!

As do you!! Lack of an ability to latch on is a serious issue. I had a breastfeeding specialist work with my youngest because she failed to latch on. Later we figured out she was lactose intolerant.
At least the baby had a reason for intolerance, whats your excuse?

Breastfeeding vs. Bottle feeding Empty
PostSubject: Re: Breastfeeding vs. Bottle feeding   Breastfeeding vs. Bottle feeding EmptySun Mar 16, 2008 9:24 am

Ok here goes:

child 1) My first I tried breast feeding for 3-4 weeks but it was just not something I personally could do. I was very uncomfortable, he never really latched on correctly therefore did not really feed right. I was trying to go back to school at the time, and honestly breast feeding just did not fit into that. So in the end he was bottle fed. He grew up to be a fine healthy boy.

child 2) Did not even try after my first go around. I felt then and feel now breast feeding was not for me. So bottle fed he was and he was a line backer of a child.

child 3) could not breast feed even if I wanted to. He was born with a soft palate cleft. He was never able to get the proper suction when feeding. I had to use a soft squeezable bottle to feed him. Whenever he went to feed Ihad to feed I had to slightly squeeze the bottle for him to get formula.

child 4) bottle fed. At the time with 2 other smaller kids it was just easier for me.

Think about it future. What masochistic clown does this chickadee come off sounding like? Someone who frequently posts one thing, posts something contrary, then shrieks like a out of tune banshee when its pointed out to her?

Lactose is a byproduct from dairy milk, J. You are not a cow. She may have had a different type of enzyme intolerance?

You're right and wrong. Breastfeeding is for you, but it is primarily for YOUR CHILD. The benefits aren't just in the milk, but also the delivery method. I don't like changing shitty diapers either, not for me, but guess what? I comes with the job.

RebelCats wrote:

I can't even being to tell you what health benefits he would have rec'd with breastfeeding.

I'm not trying to bash... I just feel, personally, a lot of mother's get a lot of misinformation about nursing because doctor's are very uneducated about it. I went to a LC, not my ped for nursing help when I needed it. I don't even believe ped's are required to take breastfeeding courses for the degrees.

guess what? I've had kids too!! You are not the only "expert mommy" on the board and if my daughters DOCTOR said she was lactose intolerant I AM TRUSTING THE MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. So suck it up and sit on it.

Where did I state I was an "expert mommy"? Just pointing out you are not a cow. Heaven forbid you do your own research. lol!

Are you saying that while both cow and human milk contain lactose, albeit in different quantities, when people are "lactose intolerant" it pertains only to cow milk?
